Signing up for the media centerThe media center is loosely organized into six sections some of which are better suited to instruction and others that are better suited to group/collaboration work. On the sign up sheets, two of the physical areas are listed with a column for instruction needed/topic following the sign up space to indicate the areas that will be better for presentations that require a demonstration of databases and/or web sites. Teachers are welcome to reserve the instruction areas and use the presentation hardware themselves, or request a library/media center lesson for their class(es).
There are laptop computers students can check out as well as a copy machine, a monochrome printer and a color printer (inside the media center office). To print from the color printer the user will need to email their print job to Mrs. Isaac at [email protected] and Mrs. Isaac will print for them. Students CAN print from their own devices to the monochrome printer following THESE DIRECTIONS. If you would like to bring your class to the media center or have Mrs. Isaac join your class via Zoom the schedule is HERE. Please also send an email with a short description of what you would like your students to learn and for Zoom classes also include your join information. |
Passes for StudentsPlease make sure students coming to the media center from your class have a pass with their name on it and media center indicated as their destination. If you need to send more than five students at one time, please contact me to make sure that there is space to accommodate them. Since fourth hour classes using the media center may prevent students from visiting the media center during their lunches, students may need a pass to enter the media center during their lunch period. If students must come to the media center during a time when classes are using the space, they may either use the "Cafe" area, or if they need to work quietly they can find an open seat in the carpeted area of the media center. Pass to media center from class Pass to media center from lunch (please only give to students with an actual need to be in the media center) |
If Students are conducting research, please encourage (require) them to use databases, NoodleTools and Office 365. You do not need to know how to use any of them yourself to make this a requirement and I will be happy to give your students any instruction/support they need (either the whole class or one-on-one). The easiest way to check to see if they are using these tools is to require a citation page in MLA format be included with their paper. I would be more than happy to take a look at these pages for you to see if students are using the correct tools. Database usernames and passwords are available in the media center as well as on the media center Schoology page.
More than books!
EquipmentThe media center also has cameras, speakers, laptops, headphones, earbuds, CD Players, DVD players, and other equipment available for teacher check out. Please note that items are checked out for a period of three weeks. If you anticipate needing equipment for the entire school year, it is best to check with your department head to see if they can be purchased out of department funds.

Book ClubsThere are two book clubs run through the media center. One for students and one for teachers (teachers are welcome to join both!). They both meet once per month after school. The teacher book group selects one professional book to read for the year and then a "fun" book that changes month-to-month.
